Rainbow Hedgehogs for Pride month

Rainbow hedgehogs mama and baby

Anchorage Pride Festival is one of my favorite events. You feel a lot of love being there. However, It has been canceled since last summer. To honor pride month, I started making rainbow hedgehogs four years ago. I thought it was just for the pride month, but the rainbow hedgehogs became so popular that I sell them year-round.
At first, I had a couple of specific yarns for rainbows. However, it is hard to keep buying the same yarns because they get discontinued so often. So, I made them with whatever colorful yarn available at the time.
It was hard to list on Etsy because all the rainbow hedgehogs have different colors.
This year, I found the perfect yarn for rainbow hedgehogs. So, I have rainbow hedgehogs 2021 edition.

Log Bolster Pillows with Mushrooms

I made these log bolster pillows for Design week at Anchorage Museum last year.

One is birch log with bear bread fungi, the other is hemlock log with chicken of the woods.

I knitted and crocheted the birch log with cotton yarn, and I added bear bread fungi made with wool yarn.

I knitted the bark part of hemlock with wool, and crocheted the top and bottom with cotton yarn. The chicken of the woods are made with wool.

I posted the photo of these last year on Instagram. A year later, I still get likes on that post. So, I decided to offer made to order.

If you are interested, you can order from here.

Snow cloud earrings

It’s been cold here in Anchorage. Now, we are waiting for snowfall. Since I cannot wait for snow, I made small numbers of snow cloud earrings with slightly pearly frosty beads.
I crochet the clouds with soft merino wool yarn. They are soft and squishy. They will add a bit of fun for your winter outfit.

NEW! Alaskan Animal Head Ornament: Black Bear

This year I added black bears to the gang! I don’t know why I didn’t last year. Anyway, I love big ears of black bears. They look cute and mischievious, aren’t they?

I crocheted the bear head with 100 % wool worsted yarn, like the other animal heads. And now, Alaskan animal head ornaments are brown bear, polar bear, black bear, and moose. I’m thinking of adding some more animals.

Alaskan Animal Head Christmas Ornaments

These crocheted Alaskan animal head Christmas ornaments were very popular last year.

I like to make amigurumi animals, but it sometimes end up a bit expensive. I use quality yarn and it just take a lot of time to make a whole body.

So, I decided to make just a head for ornaments.

I happened to have tree slices for some other projects. I put the bear head on the tree slice, then it looks cute like a little trophy animal head for a dollhouse!

Currently I offer brown bear, polar bear, and moose. I am planning to make more animals in the near future.

Rainy Cloud Earrings

I designed these rainy cloud earrings last summer.

We had very dry hot summer without good amount of rain for a long time.

I made rainy clouds with gray yarn that I had in my stash. The skinny yarn came from my mother’s stash. She used to knit with knitting machine so she had a lot of remnants of fingering weight yarn from 1970s.

The first couple pairs I made with the vintage yarns sold out at a local market right away.

Now I make them with cashmere and merino wool blend yarn. It is not scratchy at all even it touches your face.

Rainbow Cloud Earrings

Rainbow cloud earrings are one of the popular items at my booth.

I love making clouds. It took me a while to figure out how I crochet a cloud.

I see many crocheters make a cloud out of two dimension cloud icons. I wanted to crochet more three dimensional because thats what you can easily do with crochet!

I’ll introduce my other pieces with clouds sometime later, but these little rainbow clouds are my tiniest clouds I crochet.

I use the yarn either 100 % merino wool or cashmere and merino wool blend to make them.

Amigurumi/Pom Pom Hedgehogs

These hedgehogs with pom pom body and crocheted face are most popular at my booth.

At first, I was trying to make a tail of squirrel with wool pom poms. When I posted the picture on social media, my friend guessed it was a hedgehog. I thought, well, it could be.

That’s how I started to make pom pom hedgehogs.

Then, another friend of mine who loved hedgehogs asked me if I can make a smaller one so she could hang on her rear view mirror. So, now I have baby size hedgehogs.

They are made with wool yarn. Once a girl brought her beloved baby hedgehog for mending. I was so happy to see the bit felted beloved hedgehog.
